1. New Direction K9 Bite Alarms

New Direction k9 bite alarms review

ND Tackle K9 Fishing Bite Alarms

New Direction are one of the newest fishing tackle suppliers and with that, they are bringing a lot of new and fresh ideas and the stand out product is the revolutionary K9 Bluetooth Fishing bite indicator system will take your fishing game to a whole new level. ND have built something for the modern-day angler, if you are like me and love a gadget then these are right up your street, at first I was a little sceptical but they really are the best alarms you can get on the market for below £200.00 and they perform better than other £400 alarms we have tested!

The first feature we like on K9 bite alarms was the illuminated stag ears, these give you a brilliant indication day and especially at night, they are extremely bright and help when you fishing locked up in tight swims, these can also be easily removed and swapped out if you ever get any damages.

The halo light not only looks great but also stays on and give a brilliant light at night and help you avoid walking into your pod and rods at night, this is set by a sensor at the back of the alarm that knows when the light drops. Moving onto the buttons on the front of them alarms, you have two to choose from a volume and sensitivity, both of these come in 9 different options and levels meaning you have a huge selection for each situation you may be in, another great option is a small button on the back of the alarm that mutes the sound for 30 seconds, meaning if you are making some slight adjustments to your line you can do this without adjusting the sound and avoid it screaming in your ears. Another sound option is the ability to adjust the tone you want, this can be done by pressing the small button the side of the K9 Bite Alarm, you can choose from a range of different options to suit your needs.

A small feature we really liked that is something can be missed is on the top of the alarms where your rods site is a small piece of rubber when your fishing locked up and you get a take your rod cant slip of the alarms and gives you that extra time to get to it. You also have the option to attached a powered bobbin if you ever wanted to, there is a small connection at the bottom of the alarm if you want to attach illuminated bobbins.

Moving onto the main features on the New Direction Tackle K9 fishing Bite Alarms and what makes it stand out from all the rest on the market is the Bluetooth connectivity to your smartphone, you simply connect it using the APP available on IOS & Android and you can start using all the awesome features like,

  • How much Line has been taken
  • What alarm has been alerted
  • Forward or Dropback
  • Battery levels of each alarm and receiver
  • Change colours of the alarms
  • Change settings such as volume, tone, sensitivity and night light whilst you stay in the bivvy.

The app really is brilliant and at first, we thought we wouldn’t use it as much as we thought but the ability to just adjust settings while staying in the bivvy is brilliant! Well done to ND tackle for bringing something new!

The last thing is the remote receiver, this just doesn’t let you know your alarm is going off it does a lot more than that, it indicated with colour lighting up so you know exactly what alarm has been activated and also indicated on the screen the amount of line that has been taken. The remote has a number of different volume settings along with a vibration only mode.

2. Prologic R2L Bite Alarm

Prologic R2L Bite Alarm Presentation Set 3+1

Prologic R2L Bite Alarm

Prologic has been working on the R2L bite alarms for over three years meaning they are absolutely packed with features, the first being fitted with infrared movement technology, this will really detect the smallest of movement and paired with the ultra-low diameter roller.

Just like the bite alarms from ND these ones are fitted with three different controls on the alarms these are, Volume, Sensitivity and Tone ranging from 1-9, another great features these have is the light indication one light for when the line is being taken and one for dropbacks so you easily know what exactly is happening with your alarms.

The integrated snag ears height can be easily adjusted to suit your needs, these simply pull and are secured in place using a twist-lock system, there is also a power out socket located at the bottom of the Prologic R2L alarm that can be used to add your illuminated bobbins.

Next is the receiver, this comes in a very nice protective rubber silicone case, this is something that really is missed by other companies and not only does it give you a little bit of extra protection but also keep the receiver clean if its ever dropped in mud or anything it can be easily removed and washed, the R2L receiver has two lines of lights across the top and these correspond to the alarm with the top light indicating when you have a take and the bottom line showing when its a dropback similar to the alarms, it also has a memory features that can be used to show you the alarm that was last triggered, the volume dial ranges from 1-9 with a fully mute and vibration only mode, it does have a range of 150 meters but I doubt you will ever be this far away from your rods.
